Champion died just hours before the opening-night performance in New York on Aug. 25, 1980. He was 59 and had a rare form of blood cancer. WebGower’s work had it’s own stamp of humor, joy and charm. He was able to craft a unique platform with his shows to display his talents as director/choreographer and the world of musical theatre is richer for his gifts.
