Stow allows you to collect dotfiles into various packages that can be symlinked as a group. If you’re in a ~/dotfiles directory with a git subdirectory, you can run stow git and Stow will symlink all the files in ~/dotfiles/git into the home directory. In general, Stow symlinks files from packages into the their grandparent directory.

WebAlso, if a directory containing files already exists, stow will symlink each file of the subdirectory individually (instead of a single symlink for the directory at once), which may or may not be what you want. I use stow for convenience, but manual symlinking is equivalent, not that much more tedious, and gives a bit more control. WebEdit: another pro is that you can also pack up your symlinks if you'd only like to temporarily drop in dotfiles. I.e. you could 'deploy -c work's , work all day, then 'stow' then 'deploy -c home' to have this all work in the same user but possibly have a work/home different dotfile (I'm thinking for like VPN configs)
